88 International is looking to appoint a Program Manager to manage and coordinate The Gambia88 program, a positive youth development through music program, in eventual partnership with the Ministry of Education and other partners. The initial appointment will be for one year, and may be renewed depending on performance and availability of funds.

Believing in the untapped potential of youth and the power of music as a universal language, 88 International is an international NGO that creates and nurtures student-centered after school programs rooted in the idea that music is a catalyst for social inclusion and personal transformation, encouraging social impact and development around the world. 88 International is seeking a dynamic and experienced Country Manager to lead and oversee the implementation and expansion of our programs in The Gambia. 

 

Job Summary:

The Country Manager will be responsible for managing all aspects of The Gambia88, including operations, partnerships, staff management, strategic planning and execution. This role requires a strong leader with a passion for education and social impact, capable of driving program success and building sustainable relationships with local stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in program management, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.

 

Responsibilities: 

Program Management:

  • Lead the implementation of The Gambia88, ensuring it is delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
  • Develop and maintain a detailed work plan to track progress and ensure alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Ensure effective monitoring and evaluation of program activities, collecting data to measure impact and inform continuous improvement.
  • Maintain regular communication with the club coordinator(s) and with 88 International staff and partners as needed.

Partnership Development:

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, educational institutions, local organizations, and communities.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for collaboration and funding to support program activities.
  • Represent 88 International at national and regional meetings, conferences, and events to promote the organization’s work and build networks.

Operations and Administration:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of The Gambia88, ensuring compliance with local laws and regulations.
  • Develop and manage the country program budget, ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Prepare and submit regular reports to the 88 International’s board and other stakeholders, detailing program progress, challenges, and achievements.

Strategic Planning:

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the organization’s strategic plan in The Gambia.
  • Identify and assess new opportunities for program expansion and innovation.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase the sustainability and impact of The Gambia88.

Team Leadership:

  • Provide leadership and guidance to the The Gambia88 team, fostering a positive and collaborative working environment.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and support the professional development of staff.
  • Ensure effective communication and coordination within the team and with the wider organization.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, Business Administration, Social Sciences, International Development,  or a related field. Master’s degree is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in national or regional program management, preferably in an educational or non-profit setting.
  • Proven experience in managing teams and overseeing complex projects.
  • Strong partnership-building skills, with experience working with government agencies, NGOs, and community groups.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience in managing operations, budgeting and financials and proven knowledge of Gambian laws and regulations is preferred.
  • Proficiency in project management tools is preferred.
  • Fluency in English and Mandinka.
  • Willingness to travel within The Gambia and occasionally to regional and international meetings.
